Dev Ops

Dev Ops used to be the core of GHC’s business. Thankfully, much of what once required a specialist can now be handled automatically — or doesn’t need doing at all. These changes are good: great ops makes the web faster, more reliable, and more accessible.

Today, most infrastructure work is about thoughtful architecture and smart choices. Cloud providers handle the basics. Generative AI fills in many of the gaps. What remains is where GHC focuses — the complex tradeoffs and the glue that makes your system reliable.

Still SRE

A few years ago, Greg noticed "still sre" trending in Saskatchewan — a likely typo for a Dr. Dre song. The domain was available. He bought it. The mental image of software reliability engineers cruising in Cadillacs was just too good to pass up.

No Cadillacs (yet), but GHC will begin publishing articles on observability and reliability soon at stillsre.com .

Monitoring < Observability

Observability is where GHC still does the most Dev Ops work. Most providers can generate uptime and metrics — that part is easy. But knowing what to measure, and how to turn metrics into insights? That’s the real challenge.
