Yesterday afternoon the City of Regina announced they were not going to provide a shuttle for the September 15th Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age and Mannequin Pussy show at Mosaic Stadium. This is going to be an excellent show and will attract a lot of visitors from outside of Regina... so the City decided that six days of notice was plenty of time for people to make alternative arrangements.
I've lived in Regina for most of my life and between the QCX, Pats games and various concerts throughout the year, I spend quite a bit of time at the REAL District, so I can give you some advice.
First and most importantly, Mosaic Stadium is not in the best part of Regina. It may seem tempting to walk back downtown after the show but think it over carefully. North Central is a very nice neighbourhood and is full of some of the best people in Regina. For the most part, if you're not involved in anything, it's quite a safe place to be. But if you're the kind of person who gets drunk, calls strangers "goofs" and starts shit, North Central is a bad neighbourhood in which to conduct that particular experiment. If you decide to walk, it's about a thirty minute walk down Saskatchewan Drive. If someone asks if you're down, I believe the experts recommend taking off all your clothes, lying down in the fetal position and crying.
Alternately, there is the bus. Your best bet is to take the 12. You can hop on the 12 outside of the Cornwall Centre and then after the show, you can get on at the stop on Elphinstone in front of Mosaic - it will get you back downtown. I'm a big fan of the bus especially after shows, so this would be my choice. That bus drops you off near the library at 12th and Smith, so it's a short walk to watering holes or if you're so inclined, the Casino. If you're not from Regina, you don't even have to figure out the fares first; just tap a debit or credit card or use Apple Pay or Google Pay when you get on.
However, I ride the 12 and have taken it home from the REAL District before so I wouldn't be very helpful if I didn't share the full truth about this option for getting home. TransitLive is very useful, especially later in the evening when bus service drops to once every hour. But... if you have never been on Regina Transit, you need to listen to this song by Del the Funky Homosapien because it applies. Don't assume you will get on the first bus that passes by the stadium - it may not even stop because enterprising Foo Fighters fans may leave early to catch it a few stops before the Mosaic stop.
If you're unfamiliar with Regina, you may be stuck on the side of Elphinstone and decide to open up Google Maps to see what other options you have. Based on a lot of past experience, I would recommend waiting for the next bus at the Mosaic stop or forming an impromptu group of Foo fanatics and walking down Saskatchewan Drive downtown instead of improvising via Google Maps. If you open up Maps, you'll find a whole string of places on Dewdney Avenue near the Pasqua Hospital - the Burger King will likely be drive thru only. From experience, the hotel's entrance will be quite restricted and the hospital is really not a place to hang out unless you need one. Don't build a transportation plan around finding a cab at the hospital - there likely won't be cabs waiting there at that time of night.
Uber, Lyft and taxis will be options direct from Mosaic, but I've had a lot of fun trying to find my ride after a big show gets out. It's much much easier to take a short bus ride downtown and get an Uber to meet you in front of O'Hanlons. That's how I would make it home - I'd take the bus downtown, have a pint at O'Hanlons while doing my best bad impression of Lester Bangs and get an Uber to meet me there. I'm pretty sure that Dante forgot to write about the circle of hell that is trying to find your Uber after a stadium show at Mosaic.
