If you read this regularly, you'll know that I've been on something of a journey to improve my design skills. By something of a journey, I mean that started from an embryonic level so it was more like a stay in an incubator than an actual trip.
But I pushed a new version of hluska.ca several hours ago and while there are still a few problems to work out, I'm very happy with this site. I will be writing more about these changes in the coming days but for now I would just like to point out some differences:
SCSS Contrast: The WCAG Grid.
I'm not really sure what to call this one yet. It's a form that takes scss variables and creates a grid showing the contrast ratio in every possible combination and I've been working on it since the 78solutions rebuild. It's really handy having a list of every available colour combination that validates to whatever limit you're targeting and I couldn't find one as simple as I wanted, so SCSS Contrast was born.
Greg Hluska Consulting
I've always used this site as a combo personal/business site but as I've gotten more and more specialized I've come to realize that I really need a /consulting/ section. It will grow to include case studies especially those based on some of my products and will hopefully turn into a learning resource not just a promotional tool.
No more Google Analytics
This one uses Cloudflare logs only because frankly, I wasn't really using analytics as much anyways. And so after 15 years, this website does not have google analytics for the first time. I'll see how it goes and possibly bring it back but I really like how small and relatively private it is now.
Accessibility Initiative
I have been learning about accessibility for 18 years and released by first accessibility tool 2.5 years ago. But this is the first time I have ever codified my minimum release standards and testing practices.
I will write more about these changes in the coming days but wanted to write a quick introduction to anyone who noticed the changes and wondered if my website got hacked by someone with taste.
