So much better that I have actually started using HTML5 on production sites. Granted, I'm not using any of the really useful aspects of HTML5, but I'm getting closer and closer.

Unfortunately being in Saskatchewan even if the spec gets finalized it will be years before large corporations use browsers that will support it. Looks like modernizr will be used for a long time to come.

HTML5 is definitely beta technology, but it is ok to use it to markup all of your documents, even though you cant use all of the cool features consistently. I think kids are being handed this wonderful technology without understanding the consequences of their decisions on what they do with it. Technology can be a great tool for children and teens (wikipedia, help with their math homework, help with research, explosm, chatting with people from around the world).
The fundamental problems of self-esteem, beauty, bullying are nothing new - but technology can compounding the problem. The consequences of sexting (IMO) is much more emotionally dangerous than say, playing doctor. And I don't think kids understand that or why.
When I was a kid, you had friends to tell you you were not ugly. But turning to Youtube for that answer is ohgod a mistake.
I think the parent has an important part to play, especially when they are the ones providing kids with this technology is an unsupervised way (not that I am for spying on your kids).

Thanks for posting Greg! Thanks for your comment! I love Twitter, I have learned a whole lot and I have met some amazing people through it. And frankly, I do see its value as a marketing tool, just not necessarily the way that most agencies talk about it. I wrote another article today where I go a little deeper into what I mean - I'd love to hear your thoughts about it!
FastJack - thanks for leaving your comment!
If I were you, I'd check out my latest article. It is titled, "Customer acquisition costs and effective social media". I wrote it with you and a few other people in mind and hope it did a better job of explaining my position.
I guess that social media has a place in marketing, but it has an extremely high acquisition cost. Consequently, I think it is more valuable to focus on building a product/service people actually need, making sure the experience of using it is solid, and then treating your existing customers like gold. The goal is to create solid word of mouth and get your existing customers to leverage their networks to help sell your product for you.
From there, social media's true value is in becoming part of the conversation, getting to know your customers, and building relationships. Definitely valuable, but not necessarily as a tool to acquire new customers. Does that make any more sense??

Hi Collette!

Thanks for your comment! Say, your followers mentioning you in comments, saying how great you are, giving #FF, which gives more followers to the account. Every once in awhile you'll put out some sort of branded tweet--which your new followers will see. Especially if your tweeter(s) are just regular desk jockeys that are particularly clever--and yes, you don't hire anyone who ever even USES the word guru--this doesn't seem expensive.

I guess my big question is there something besides Cascades that could be use for marketing?
